Contrary to typical procedures performed at the general dentist’s office, orthodontic treatment has no fixed price and in Ontario, there is no provincially mandated fee guide. The reason for this is simple; every case is unique and presents its own challenges for the orthodontist. As such, he or she will need to make a decision on a case-by-case basis.

Other factors come into play as well. For example, fees in downtown Toronto may be more expensive than those found in the suburbs. This is based on higher rent and cost of living of the area. Also, some orthodontists will quote patients a basic fee, but will charge extra for things such as diagnostic imaging and x-rays, emergency visits, broken braces, missed appointments, retainers, etc. Keeping these various parameters in mind, orthodontic treatment in Ontario ranges between $4000 and $8000, with the average being around $6000.In addition to the orthodontic cost, some patients may need further treatment other than the braces. For example, this could be removal of teeth, jaw surgery, replacement of missing teeth, and so on. Though your orthodontist may be able to give you some feedback as to these associated costs, since they do not typically perform these services, these fees would best be quoted by the dental professional performing them.

When choosing an orthodontist, don’t be afraid to ask what is included in the cost of treatment and whether further costs could be expected.

At Palermo Orthodontics, our policy is simple; once we quote a fee, it includes all the services performed at our office to take your smile from where it is now, all the way to where you want it to be!
